Winnipeg’s Royal Canoe have toured across the USA, performed in Danny Masterson’s backyard in Los Angeles and caught the ear of Jay-Z with a remix of their track “Bathtubs”.  Their sophomore album, Today We’re Believers, was just released last week, September 3 on Nevado Records. Royal Canoe are currently touring North America with Alt-J followed by another North American tour with Tricky. In 2012 the band released two EPs (Purple & Gold, Extended Play) to critical acclaim, played just shy of 100 shows in North America and gathered tons of buzz at the CMJ Music Marathon, where they were named the “Sleeper Hit” by KCRW Los Angeles and landed spots of “Best of CMJ” lists from the New York Times and Consequence of Sound. Royal Canoe combine eccentric samples with deep grooves and then toss in a handful of aggressive pop melodies.  Today We’re Believers leans heavily into the urban side of things, cruising the downtown core at night, sliding under streetlights and letting the warm Manitoba summer invade your space.

  • “Buckle up – the band is anything but your standard indie-pop. Known for their genre bending approach and their songs are clearly written with innovation in mind.” – FILTER MAGAZINE (USA)
  • “A sound that’s at once incredibly intricate, and simply enjoyable” – Consequence Of Sound (USA)
  • “super-inventive sound is unbelievably rich and catchy” – KCRW (Los Angeles)
  • “Dense, acrylic electropop whose pulp of falsetto and cacophonous disco beat says either Vampire Weekend or Thomas Dolby, depending on who you ask” – MOJO MAGAZINE (UK)

As we transition from our second round of beta testing and analysis, its the proper time to launch a multifaceted piece on our interactive mag, exposing many of the musical artists we have connected with and/or whom have submitted to our network. Our multi-media platform offers artists worldwide an opportunity to work, earn, and share profits through our systematic and sustainable business/revenue model. Building out our infrastructure with new technology that’s permitting us to operate in the manner we envisioned, is a dream come true. And the dream we speak of, couldn’t ignite without one submission from an artist. From one, interest grew, and we must take our time to humbly thank so many of the creators (along with their: Bandmates, Agents, Labels, Managers, PR Representatives, Publicists, and/or Other).

Our lists boast more prospective participants than we could have ever imagined, that have submitted to our network to distribute, share, promote, and contribute their passion. It means more than words can say, and due diligence on our behalf, to support and promote their endeavors, is in motion 24/7 until the end of time. Please look for the new Shadowbox Platform on Blockchain arriving in 2019. For now, please look to Shadowbox MVMNT as we will be displaying a diverse tray filled with many of our submitted creators. I conclude by stating that the creative world is moving swiftly, you never know what you may have missed while soaking up another experience courtesy of the millions of artists making their presence daily. Therefore, while sharing the art of our contributors, content, commentary, and media listed is dated between 2014-2018. Again… may never know what you could have missed. Throwback and stay timeless…

Much Love & Respect,

John Whitman, Founder
